Accessibility is gaining prominence in both national and international policy discussions. From Sustainable Development Goal 10, which aims to reduce inequality, to the growing focus on broad prosperity, understanding and improving accessibility is key. But how do you measure accessibility effectively? Together with Conveyal, Movares uses the Conveyal Analysis Tool, known in Dutch as the “Verbindingswijzer”, to provide fast, data-driven insights into accessibility.
Smart, fast, and insightful
The “Verbindingswijzer” shows which locations can be reached within a specific travel time from any starting point. By integrating socio-economic data, such as employment opportunities, it quantifies accessibility and reveals the real-world opportunities available to people.
Key applications for mobility and urban planning
- Accessibility analysis: Evaluate how easily people can reach essential services such as jobs, healthcare, and education. For example, analyse how many residents or customers are accessible within a 15-minute travel time.
- Multimodal mobility planning: Support mobility strategies by analysing the impact of public transport, cycling, and Park & Ride solutions—and identifying areas for improvement.
- Regional accessibility insights: Move beyond single locations and analyse entire regions. Compare accessibility levels across different areas to support better policy decisions and spatial planning.
- Scenario modelling: Test the impact of infrastructure changes, public transport schedules, or network improvements. Simulate different scenarios to support data-driven decision-making.
- Travel time and impact analysis: Compare travel times across different transport modes and assess how changes influence accessibility, travel behaviour, and the attractiveness of public transport.
- From insight to strategy: The Verbindingswijzer provides strategic insights for mobility policy, urban development, and investment decisions. By combining data, modelling, and local context, it supports the design of more accessible, inclusive, and future-proof transport systems.
