Strengthening a regional cycling network
In Enschede, two new bicycle bridges form the final link in the F35 fast cycling route, a 62-kilometre corridor connecting Nijverdal to the German border. By crossing the Tubantiasingel and Lambertus Buddestraat, these bridges complete a key section of this high-quality cycling highway. The project improves both safety and accessibility, enabling faster and more direct cycling connections across the city and the broader region.
Combining functionality and urban identity
Commissioned by the Municipality of Enschede, Movares was responsible for the integrated development and design of this section, including the two bridges. The project stands out for its combination of technical complexity and refined architectural design. Beyond their functional role, the bridges contribute to the urban identity and green character of the city. Their seamless integration into a densely built environment reflects our innovative approach to high-quality cycling infrastructure.
Collaboration with the municipality and the successful use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) further demonstrate our expertise in managing complex urban projects.
One design, two bridges
The bridges were designed as a cohesive ‘family’, sharing a consistent and elegant appearance. Slender steel structures combined with wooden railings create a lightweight, transparent design that blends naturally with the surrounding landscape.
This unified design approach strengthens recognisability along the route while ensuring a high-quality user experience for cyclists.
Sustainable and green integration
Despite their urban context, the bridges contribute to the ecological value of the area. Additional greenery and landscaping enhance biodiversity and reinforce the city’s sustainability ambitions. The project shows how cycling infrastructure can actively support both mobility and environmental goals.
A fast, safe and attractive cycling route
With the completion of these bridges, the F35 fast cycling route is fully connected in Enschede, offering cyclists a safe, efficient and high-quality alternative to car travel.
The project delivers:
- improved regional connectivity for cyclists
- safer crossings in a busy urban environment
- high-quality, future-proof cycling infrastructure
- strong integration of design, sustainability, and functionality
With this project, Movares has not only delivered a vital connection in the F35 network but also set a new standard for urban cycling infrastructure – where design, sustainability, and functionality go hand in hand.
